From the Kitchen to the Community: Our Experience at KTLA 5
Recently, the team at Caramel Connections Foundation had the wonderful opportunity to step into the studio at KTLA 5 to share a few of our favorite healthy recipe swaps live on air. The segment was part of the First 5 San Bernardino Little Me, Big Responsibility campaign, which encourages families to build healthy habits early in a child’s life.
For our team, the experience was both exciting and meaningful. While many people see the few minutes of cooking on television, what makes moments like these special is the collaboration behind them; community partners, educators, and advocates all working toward the same goal: helping families make healthier choices that are simple, practical, and enjoyable. Why Recipe Swaps Matter
At Caramel Connections Foundation, food is more than nutrition. It’s a pathway to connection, confidence, and learning. Over the years, our programs have shown that when families are introduced to small, manageable changes in the kitchen, they are more likely to build lasting healthy habits.
Recipe swaps are one of the easiest ways to begin. Instead of completely changing what a family eats, swaps introduce healthier ingredients or preparation methods while still keeping meals familiar and flavorful. When people realize healthy food can still taste great, the shift becomes much easier.
During the KTLA segment, we focused on demonstrating just that: simple substitutions that make meals more nourishing without losing the flavors families already love.
